Today is Valentine's Day, but it is also a very special day at WTOC.
On Feb. 14, 1954, Savannah's first television station WTOC-TV went on the air. The man who threw the switch to get the station started was William T. Knight Jr.
Many remember it being the middle of the afternoon as Dave Randell, Dwight Bruce, Jess Mooney, and of course a cameraman-turned-TV legend Doug Weathers, who delivered the first television broadcast. The Big Red 11 took hold of Savannah's heart that day and hasn't let go, and what a wonderful relationship it has been.
WTOC-TV would like to thank the public for a wonderful 59 years. Share your WTOC memories on WTOC's Facebook page!
